The multiple award-winning star, who has been in the world Sevens limelight since he was a teenager, is now a Fijian selector, but simply could not ignore the challenge of playing in the Fijian side defending their IRB Sevens crown for the first time.

Fiji, the Sevens World Cup holders, won the annual world series for the first time last season, breaking New Zealand's six-year grip on the championship.

"Yes, the job this year is going to be harder than it was last year as now we're the defending champions, and everyone will want to knock us off our perch," he said.

Included in the squad, to be captained by policeman Mosese Volavola, are overseas-based Sireli Naqelevuki and Senirusi Rauqe.

"Sireli's power and experience will be vital in this first leg, as I believe it's important we get off to the best possible start" Serevi said.

"Rauqe too, with his height and pace, gives us lots of options in the forwards."

The 2006/07 IRB series kicks off in Dubai on December 1 with the second tournament in George, South Africa, the following week.

The eighth and final round is in Scotland next June.
