Weepu goes to league - for a week - for now

NZRFU say okayPiri Weepu is off to Newcastle in Australia to train with the Knights, the top rugby league outfit.
The Knights have in the past cast acquisitive eyes in Weepu's direction, and the sturdy halfback has expressed interest in the game he played when younger.
The Knights' interest may be sharpened by the pending retirement of Kangaroo star and captain, Andrew Johns.
Weepu has the New Zealand RFU's approval of his week-long training stint with the Knights this coming week.
AAP reports that All Blacks' coach Wayne Smith organised the training stint. Weepu is set to miss the first half of the Super 12 as one of 22 All Blacks to do so in the interests of constructive rest leading to the World Cup. Wayne Smith is a friend of Brian Smith, the Knights' new coach.
The Knights' chief executive is reported as saying: "We were quite flattered. It's a feather in the club's cap and in Brian Smith's cap.
"Weepu said he was keen to come over here and train under a different environment and train under Brian Smith and perhaps chew the fat with Andrew Johns."
Conway said that this was not a cunning plan to lure Weepu to the Knights, adding: "There's been no formal or informal discussions and I don't anticipate, unless he brings the topic up, there will be," he said.
Weepu has expressed his determination of going back to league, saying: "When I'm ready to go, I'll go."
