Somerville out of Super 14
Tuesday January 09 2007
Hoodoo on YodaGreg Somerville of the Crusaders, Yoda to his mates, is set to miss the whole of the Super 14 because of an injury to his Achilles tendon.
The 29-year-old prop ruptured his Achilles in the All Blacks' victory over the Springboks in Pretoria on 26 August 2006. It was his 55th Test which leaves him three short of Craig Dowd's record for a New Zealand prop.
He was operated on when he returned to New Zealand but the operation was not a success and he was forced to undergo a second operation just before Christmas. The rehab process will keep Somerville out of the whole of the Super 14.
Somerville has played just over 100 matches in Super rugby, the last 28 of them in succession.
