South Africa Anthem
The choice of South Africa's anthem was an integral part of the country's break away from the apartheid era. Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika (God Bless Africa), composed in 1897 by a Methodist teacher, was amalgamated with pieces of "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika" (The Call of South Africa) anthem in 1996.
Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika
Maluphakanyiswe uphondo Iwayo
Yizwa imithandazo yethu
Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho Iwayo
Morena boloka sethjaba sa heso
O fedisa dintwa le matshwenyeho
O se boloke, o se boloke sethjaba sa heso
Sethjaba sa South Africa, South Africa
Uit die blou van onse hemel
Uit die diepte van ons see
Oor ons ewige gebergtes
Waar Die kranse antwoord gee
Sounds the call to come together
And united we shall stand
Let us live and strive for freedom
In South Africa our land
